Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. The title ‘nutritionist’ is not regulated or protected. An RD / RDN has an accredited college degree in clinical nutrition, a 1,200-hour clinical internship, and has passed a board exam in clinical nutrition. The RDN is the only medical nutrition credential in the United States, with the exception of Certified Nutritionist Specialist (CNS) in some states. RDs are also required to maintain their medical license by earning approved continuing education in clinical nutrition.

After you request an appointment, you will receive an email that your appointment has been confirmed within 24 hours. Shortly after, you will receive secure forms from my electronic medical record, Simple Practice. These forms will include an intake, practice policies, and a credit card form to secure your appointment. Your credit card will never be charged without your permission.
-
During your initial visit, we will discuss your health and eating concerns, as well as all aspects of your lifestyle that contribute to your overall health. I strive to gather all of the information I need to fully comprehend your current nutrition and health issues, establish why they might exist, and how I can effectively work with you to resolve them. Lastly, you will leave our session with first steps to make progress toward your goal.
Your health insurance will often cover your nutrition visits. To lean more about using your health insurance, click HERE. -
At the end of your first appointment, I will determine the projected frequency of your follow-up appointments (with your input of course). Many clients with weight loss goals find it helpful to have weekly sessions. Otherwise, most people prefer to be seen every 2-3 weeks. Since everyone’s starting point and goals are unique, the frequency and number of follow-up visits required are determined on an individual basis.

The initial consultation is 50-60 minutes and follow-up appointments are 30-50 minutes. If you have questions or need support in between sessions, you can message me via your patient portal.

The device I use to measure metabolism is called the BodyGem. It measures the rate of oxygen consumption (VO2) which correlates very closely with the level of energy that is being expended by the body. The method is called indirect calorimetry and is one of the most accurate ways to measure metabolism. Your metabolism is unique to you and is based on thyroid function, genetics, medications, age, sex, exercise, and body composition—to name a few.

You will sit in a chair with a small tube in your mouth and a nose clip on, breathing in and out of your mouth for about 10 minutes. The purpose of the nose clip is to create a vacuum seal so that no air escapes. The test is not painful and exercise is not required as part of the test. However, some people find it uncomfortable as you need to breathe through your mouth for the duration of the test.
-
The test itself takes about 10 minutes.
-
Many clients choose to complete the test from the comfort of their home prior to beginning an in-home consultation and pantry organization services. I also offer in-home services within Sonoma, Napa, and Marin Counties to perform the test and provide data interpretation / nutrition counseling afterwards.
-
Do not eat anything or drink any caffeine for 4 hours prior to the test. Drink plenty of water though!
Do not exercise within 4 hours of the test.
Do not smoke within 4 hours of the test.
-
$150 for the test and print-out of your metabolic parameters. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the cost of metabolism testing, but it will cover the cost of our nutrition session afterwards.
FAQs
Do you have a weight loss goal? Take the guesswork and frustration out of your nutrition and physical activity plan.
How? By determining your daily calorie needs, or resting metabolic rate (RMR), so that you don’t have to second guess your nutritional needs again.
